The infinity pool flows out, rolling over the hills, and—if you squint—it appears to be part of the ocean. Those “KEN” balloons spotted in Airbnb’s original listing were gone by the time I visited, but a mass of floaties tumbled around in the water instead. A pink slide spirals into the pool, but it comes just short of the actual water. If you were to slide down, you’d land on your butt; in the movie, Barbie floats down and walks on top of the water. A life-size replica of Barbie’s hot pink house in Malibu, California, will be available to book for two individual one-night stays this summer, Airbnb announced June 26. The large oceanfront house features a pink bedroom decorated with cowhide rugs, cowboy hats and horse-printed throws as well as a closet from which guests can borrow Ken's fringed cowboy shirts and his guitar.

Dermot Mulroney Says He “Didn’t Work for a Year” Due to ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ Movie Poster

The upcoming Greta Gerwig film has reignited the interest in all things hot pink. Barbiecore isn't just on the runway — it has also inspired the interior decor of houses and even vintage campers. Up to two guests can stay in the home each night, but they're responsible for their own travel to and from Malibu if they're out of state, per the Airbnb press release.

Other details that nod to Ken's takeover include a Western-style swing door, decorated with an image of a horse and the words "Kendom Saloon", and a crossed-out "Barbie" sign above the outdoor kitchen that now reads "Ken". Kodak’s Printomatic digital camera — in chic Barbie-inspired pink — instantly prints out your memories on ink-free Zink photo paper.
Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken can be seen in the Barbie trailer sporting the getup on what may be their first excursion into the real world. That they are met with leering looks and laughter on the Venice Beach boardwalk should be chalked up to their full-scale neon attire—the skates and their accessories totally fly standing alone. Lindsay Lowe has been a regular contributor to TODAY.com since 2016, covering pop culture, style, home and other lifestyle topics. She is also working on her first novel, a domestic drama set in rural Regency England. But now, the oceanfront home has been renovated to fully embrace all things pink and Barbie.

Cowboy hats sit in a crown above the still-Barbie pink velvet bed, though a new cow-print duvet rests upon the mattress. Barbie’s vanity has been invaded by cologne (engraved with the year 1961, when Mattel released the Ken doll), Ken’s plastic keys, and other fun trinkets. Outside, Ken (who’s not there, but he’s left a bunch of his stuff behind) is grilling some plastic chicken and steak on his fake barbecue. A human-sized barbecue is also tucked into the pink outdoor oasis, which is less decorated than the open-air bedroom right beside the patio. The overnight stays are timed to the July 21 release of the “Barbie” movie, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The company also says “everyone in Barbie Land” can request to book Ken’s room in the Malibu DreamHouse beginning July 17 at 10 a.m.

This washable chevron rug from Ruggable’s official Barbie collection is inspired by the iconic Mattel doll’s original black and white dress. “While it certainly won’t be to everyone’s taste, the 3,500-square-foot space, views of the Pacific Ocean, private pool, and totally unique design result in a hefty price tag for the property,” said Tony Mariotti, CEO of RubyHome. The real estate firm evaluated the average sale price of comparable homes with similar amenities, and then added a 10% “premium” due to the home’s one-of-a-kind appearance and appeal. Then, over the weekend, a hot pink citadel popped up in a Malibu looking very much like the living embodiment of the Dream itself.
The promotion - launched as part of a marketing push for the upcoming Barbie movie - gives fans the chance to step inside the doll’s hot-pink home, hosted by her boyfriend Ken. Malibu-based luxury real estate company RubyHome, has put the home’s price tag at $10 million — significantly higher than the estimates from the online real estate portals. Estimates from the usual real estate listing sites vary pretty wildly. Zillow gives the home an estimated price tag of $5,347,400, Redfin‘s estimates comes in at $3,491,022, and Realtor.com give the most optimistic estimate at $7,277,000. In the meantime, it’s worth noting that the exact same home was made over in 2019 — though much less aggressively — for an Airbnb/Barbie mashup to commemorate the Barbie brand’s 60th anniversary. The home was made available for a limited time via Airbnb for the dream price of just $60 a night.
Away’s neon pink options for bigger baggage may have already sold out, but their accessories, including the packing cubes, come in a soft petal pink perfect for a toned-down Barbie. SteamLine has some stunning options that make me think of the sewing boxes in which my own sister stored her Barbies back in the day, the best being some pink-and-white striped leather pieces reminiscent of Barbie’s glorious gingham. Barbieland’s creation also appeared to take up one company’s entire global supply of pink paint, Gerwig and Sarah Greenwood, the film’s production designer, told Architectural Digest in early June. The sets in the fictitious town are almost entirely fluorescent pink and thus had caused an international shortage of pink paint. Though it’s technically Barbie’s property, her longtime partner, Ken, is the host, according to the Airbnb listing. And he’s left personal touches like a grill, pool floaties that spell his name and a barrel of workout supplements called “Beefy body brine” for guests to enjoy.
Obviously, oceanfront property in one of America’s most desired enclaves is going to cost a pretty penny. But a gaudy manor inspired by the stylistic choices of a fashionista children’s doll is a bit of an unprecedented sale. The bed leans against a wall covered in pink and white patterned wallpaper, while cowboy hats hang above the headboard. The listing is offering two, one-night stays on July 21 and 22 for two guests. The Airbnb will be available for bookings on July 17, and it will cost $0 to stay.
But for a more accurate guesstimate, it might take the expertise of local real estate experts who are familiar with the homes in the area and what they usually fetch on the open market. The live-action "Barbie" movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is set to hit cinemas on July 21. Guests will be greeted by a concierge upon their arrival, who will show them around and arrange for their meals, per the press release.
Bookings for two, one-night stays for up to two guests begin July 17 at 10 a.m. The closet is full of Ken's clothes, including cowboy jackets and printed shirts, photos show. The Malibu DreamHouse will be available to book for two separate, overnight stays for up to two people on July 21 and July 22, 2023.
